Shelob uses the Ring to look into the future and sends Talion to the last Gondorian stronghold in Mordor, Minas Ithil, who is under attack from Sauron's army due to the city's possession of the valuable Palantir. Palantir would allow anyone to see whatever he wants, this makes the Ring an important item for the protagonist and a dangerous weapon against Sauron.

The main character of the game Talion possesses several natural physical and combat skills as a warrior of Gondor, he also has exceptional abilities, which are given to him by the ghost of the elf lord Celebrimbor, who provides his body as a container. The player uses his unusual abilities to complete various missions, mainly they are aimed at destroying Sauron's troops. The game consists of main quests that follow the game's plot, and a large number of side quests, the completion of which will help increase Talion's abilities.
