Arctico is made by a single developer who is clearly trying to put his creation on the same shelf with the chic The Long Dark, which certainly deserves respect. The project is a minimalist, unhurried, Nordic "survival" in the most picturesque surroundings of the nature of the Far North.

Arctico review

As a geologist, the player is thrown into an arctic island. The mission of the expedition is to extract minerals, carry out scientific experiments and, most importantly, self-sufficiency. Scattered across the local tundra in special containers are the notes of the predecessor - the elderly Dr. Garcia, who is simply in love with this "iceberg in the ocean", her monologues will be the only interlocutors during the story.

Of the gameplay mechanics in Arctico, the most interesting is the idea of sled dogs. They need to be given nicknames, they need to be treated, fed, and in difficult times they can save their lives by dashingly taking them off the battlefield in a sleigh. But so far this promising development has not yet been fully implemented.

The gameplay sketches show that the author was inspired by the creation of Hinterland Studio. There is everything that gamers have already seen in The Long Dark: winter, endless snowy forest, abandoned hunting huts, wood stoves for warming and cooking, constant thirst, hunger, cold, the need to collect everything that burns well, shy deer and hungry predators. In addition to all this, the game also has unique features, locations and tasks.

Even with some downsides, Arctico's enormous potential is immediately apparent. It's less realistic and more action oriented. If you improve the feature with a dog sled, it will be much more fun to survive. When developed by one person, the project will evolve slowly, but the guidelines are definitely correct and the movement is going in the right direction. Screenshots
