Shady Part of Me review

The main role in the narrative is taken by not one, but two characters at once: a girl who is trying to escape from the shelter and her own shadow. This whole escape is also a kind of metaphor, because it does not actually take place, but only in the subconscious of the heroine.

During this journey, the girl's inner struggle with her fears and psychological problems is revealed. Constant communication with the shadow will lead either to conflicts and quarrels, or to mutual understanding and cooperation. All this will directly affect the gameplay itself and the difficulty of the puzzles.

The whole gameplay is based on solving various puzzles, mainly related to the play of light and shadow. Since the girl is afraid of light, she will constantly have to be in the dark, and for the shadow, light is the only way to exist.

To successfully solve all the puzzles, the heroines need to interact with each other all the time. The girl will have to move boxes, pull levers and press platforms while in 3d space, thereby creating dark and light areas for her companion.

The shadow takes part in puzzles less often. Jumping over spikes and overcoming small obstacles, she follows the girl and creates dark places for her. With each new chapter, the conditions will change slightly: in different locations the light will fall differently, forcing to look for workarounds and new ways of interacting with the world.

The visual style of the game is very pleasing to the eye. Everything around is as if painted with watercolors, and the decorations make it clear that they were created by the imagination of a little frightened girl.

Shady Part of Me is a small game. It can take from 4 to 6 hours to complete the story. But the developers took care of this too, adding several collectibles to each location, the search for which can stretch the passage almost twice. Screenshots
