As in the previous part, Tropico 6 begins with the colonial era, it continues with world wars, then the Cold War, and finally, the modern era. Previously, only one island was available to the players, on which it was possible to build a state, now you can create an entire archipelago of small islands, as well as build bridges between them.
The population of the islands, according to the developers, will now be fully modeled, which means that the actions of the commander in chief will have an impact on the performance and mood of citizens. The wrong decision can lead the country to rebellion and even civil war.
The state will have to be created on empty land from scratch. For this, players are provided with 85 types of unique buildings, such as: houses for citizens, factories, farm buildings, social places, houses for government meetings, tourist buildings, as well as infrastructure. First of all, you need to think about your citizens: they need to be placed in houses, provided with food, arranged for work, and also built medical facilities for them, entertaining and religious.
Tropico 6 received many positive reviews from fans of the series, who have been waiting for its release since 2017, as well as from various gaming publications. In 2019 and 2020, the game received the award as the best strategic video game of the year, and in 2020 it was also awarded for best music.
