 The protagonist is a resident of the tyrannical city of Night City named V. Players can choose the gender, appearance and history of the past hero when creating it, which will affect some missions and where the protagonist will be at the start. In addition, users will be able to adjust the size of the hero's genitals or breasts if it is a woman. There are also several classes to choose from and the ability to combine them with each other.

The city consists of six districts with unique characteristics. The game world has a change of day and night, as well as weather. The inhabitants of the city are very diverse, each with a certain built-in implant. The protagonist will have to interact with others in order to succeed in achieving his goal - to build a career and find an implant that ensures eternal life. Assignments will be given to him by local groups hired by the richest people in the city. Often these will be missions where it is necessary to risk life and health. The hunt for a valuable device that gives immortality is led not only by the protagonist, but also by other inhabitants of the game world, mostly hostile.

Cyberpunk 2077 players are free to roam and travel outside of the city. From transport, cars and motorcycles are provided. The main character, weapons, vehicles, etc. must be constantly improved in order to keep up with rivals and be able to resist them.
