Phoenix Point: Year One Edition review
The story begins in 2022, when scientists discovered an unknown virus called Pandoravirus in the permafrost. All living things that come into contact irreversibly mutate into bloodthirsty monsters.
At the end of the decade, global warming freed Pandora, which quickly infected the ocean and spread to land. Most of humanity was infected or died.
In 2047, Project Phoenix, which was created to counter global threats, is fighting the invaders and trying to prevent the complete extinction of human civilization. The player acts as the commander of one of the organization's units.
Phoenix Point: Year One Edition's gameplay is reminiscent of the famous X-com. Under the command of the player is a squad of several unique fighters who unquestioningly follow the orders given to them during the planning of the move.
The global part of the projects is also similar. Base management and monitoring of the world situation on the Earth model are required. But the combat system has changed a lot. The number of action points is strictly fixed - four for each. Also, each soldier has a reserve of will, which is needed to use special skills. If this indicator drops to zero, the fighter skips a move.
The classic firing calculation system has been removed. Now, instead of an indicator of the hit chance as a percentage, each weapon has its own aiming cone, by which you can fairly accurately estimate the probability of a hit. Conveniently, it is also allowed to aim in the first person. It is also possible to select specific parts of the body, the damage of which will affect the further combat effectiveness of the enemy.
