In December 2020, Still Running studio released a game called Morbid: The Seven Acolytes. The game is made in the classic Souls-like style, only with pixel graphics and a top view. The developers themselves position it as a horror-punk action game. The world of the game is filled with all kinds of Lovecraft horrors, and the design of the locations is a kind of gothic steampunk.

Morbid: The Seven Acolytes review

The game takes place in the fictional fantasy land of Mornia, which was captured by the evil gods - the Gahars. But in order to penetrate the world itself, the gakhars need physical incarnations, which are the seven novices.

In the role of a female warrior from the Order of Debrom, called the Aspirant, the player will have to defeat all seven gakhars, and at the same time find out what happened to the other warriors who went on this mission before her.

The main innovation of the game, as the development of the genre, was the sanity system inherent in all works associated with Lovecraft. It consists in the fact that the lower the level of sanity of the hero, the less he deals damage, and the enemies become stronger. You can restore sanity with the help of special drugs that drop from enemies. They drop out quite rarely, which greatly complicates the passage.

Morbid: The Seven Acolytes has a perk system called blessing. By pumping these or those perks, you can create countless combinations of the development of the hero, whether it be a non-killable tank or an agile and fast robber.

There is also a decent arsenal of weapons ranging from swords and rapiers to guns and crossbows. All weapons have only two main characteristics: attack power and speed, but they can be enhanced using special runes and mushrooms that drop from enemies.

In total, there are seven full-fledged bosses in the game, in fact, the novices themselves and four mini-bosses, for the murder of which side tasks are completed. Hordes of dangerous enemies block the way to them. After defeating each novice, the player has access to his description and history. The stories themselves are written quite interestingly and help to better understand the lore of the game. Screenshots
