Wolcen: Lords of Mayhem review
The story tells of one of three survivors of the Kastagat massacre. Saved by the Inquisitor Heimlock, they associate their lives with the struggle against all the supernatural.
During one of the operations against the Brotherhood of Dawn, the hero unexpectedly takes on a demonic form. Although he so defended himself and his comrades, the Inquisition considers it an unforgivable crime.
The world has been recreated in detail and saturated with its own culture. Here, the monumental medieval state is at enmity with everyone who is somehow connected with magic. Gloomy but beautiful fantasy attracts and makes you stay.
The emphasis on plot is unusual for projects of this kind. The gameplay is often interrupted by well-staged cut-scenes, in which there is a good level of production.
The role-playing system in Wolcen: Lords of Mayhem is quite flexible. There are three typical classes: warrior, mage, and archer. But equipment and skills are not tied to any of them. It is enough to change the sword for a staff, and the soldier clad in armor casts spells. Skills are also made in the form of relics. To use them, you need to learn, after which they will forever remain attached to the character. Freedom is given by a huge selection of passive skills. Together, this makes it possible to assemble a unique fighter.
The rest of the mechanics are classic for the genre. It is worth highlighting only the ability to escape from blows with rolls. Over time, the ability to turn into a huge monster will become available, which helps great in battles with especially strong enemies.
The detailed elaboration of the environment should be noted separately. Each location is worked out to the smallest detail. Enemies will not get bored either, there is a great variety of them here. They differ both externally and in the ways of fighting.
