Streets of Rage 4 review

The company of heroes has dispersed, but now they have to get together again. The past villain, Mr. X, was replaced by his heirs - brother and sister Y. They are building their criminal empire, and the police are no longer able to resist them.

The player chooses from four available fighters. The fifth opens as you progress, twelve more are opened for points earned for completing levels. Bonus characters carried over from the old parts and made in pixel art. The sets of techniques also correspond to the original. Each of them has unique characteristics and special skills.

The style and mechanics of the game remain faithful to the canon. It's still the same bouncy action movie in the style of the 90s, with dirty streets, pumped up punks and well-known protagonists. You can fight with your bare hands or using various weapons: pieces of pipes, broken bottles, batons, electric shocks, and so on. With the help of the latter, you can launch slot machines located in locations. They will allow you to go through small episodes from the old parts.

The ranks of opponents in Streets of Rage 4 have become noticeably more diverse. They have both familiar enemies and completely new ones: policemen with shields, girls throwing grenades, cyborgs and many others. In addition to ordinary bandits, unique bosses await at the levels. Each of them is unique and fights in a special location.

You can play the game alone or in co-op for up to four people. The settings allow you to flexibly adjust the difficulty, choose options for the musical accompaniment and switch the graphics from the updated version to the picture of the Sega era. Screenshots
