The protagonist is a skeleton named Skal, who finds himself in the demon world. Having come to his senses, Skal realizes that he is a kind of mechanism of the past war, which the Carleonese and their Hero had staged, and begins a journey through the scorched earth. Skal is sure that only he is able to save the demon king, who was captured by Carleon's army.

The gameplay lasts throughout the passage of several game locations. In each of them, the main character will meet both enemies and friends, and he will definitely meet the main antagonists.

To fight with opponents, the Rock will help his possession of magic and martial arts of a warrior. Also for additional support, he uses unusual artifacts in the form of the skulls of other skeletons. They give him unprecedented power and knowledge.

In addition, in addition to ordinary villains and main bosses, at each level of the Rock, all kinds of cunning traps and obstacles await. He will be able to bypass them and defeat enemies only by constantly improving his abilities. There is only one way to do this - to get shards of "black quartz". With the help of these fragments, the Land of Demons was destroyed and poisoned.

Following a given plan, the hero can die more than once. After his death, Skal finds himself in a certain room in which he can try to tidy himself up, as well as improve skills and equipment using NPS.

After that, Skul: The Hero Slayer will continue, but from the very beginning of the location where the death occurred. Skal also meets neutral or good NPS at locations who can help him improve for free or for a moderate fee. Screenshots
