Suddenly, a mysterious forest and her mother appear inside the souvenir, informing that this trinket will help find her. The girl is going to search. In the town square, she notices a strange creature. After leaving the gate, she meets him again, it turns out to be a green goblin, breaking gifts.

In the forest, she finds a mysterious house, the owner of which is a sorceress. She can help find the missing woman, but first she needs to get her magic back and find Grandfather Christmas.

The player explores locations looking for active objects and characters on them. Each location is decorated for the Christmas holiday. On each screen, many items are hidden, necessary for passing or simply of interest. Because of this variety, finding the item you need is often difficult.

The heroine comments on each find, reflecting on what is happening, recalling the past or giving a hint for use. The riddles in Christmas Stories 9: The Christmas Tree Forest are not very difficult, but the keys are often located several screens from the door, and the appearance is often unexpected.

All finds are added to the inventory located at the bottom of the screen. Oftentimes, the plot throws up funny mini-games as challenges. Facial animation has been noticeably improved.
