Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord review
The game is an open world sandbox game set in a medieval setting. After creating a character and a short introduction, which is training, the player finds himself in a huge open world with complete freedom of action.
The mechanics have barely changed since Warband. The creation of a hero still begins with a choice of several biography options and customization of appearance. The choice of what the future warrior did in childhood and adolescence, as well as who his parents were, will affect the starting skills and position in society. Although, by and large, all this does not greatly affect the passage.
The lands of Caldaria are divided among several kingdoms, which constantly trade, make alliances and fight among themselves. And all this happens without any intervention from the player. Nevertheless, no one forbids joining one of the parties and starting to defend its interests, or building your own empire, for this there are all the necessary tools. From the very beginning, there is the possibility of collecting your own militia from peasants and mercenaries, who, after hardening in battles, will become a professional army.
The main highlight of Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord is massive battles and sieges, in which hundreds of soldiers converge on the same field. Playing in third person, the player commands and leads his troops into battle, killing enemies with his sword.
The project tries to be realistic, which means that there is no magic and various fire and ice swords. But there is an extensive selection of one-handed, one-and-a-half, two-handed swords, axes, sabers, spears, halberds and a variety of throwing weapons. For protection, shields and armor are provided for every taste. A novelty was the ability to stand behind a catapult or ballista during an assault or defense of fortress walls, and thin out the enemy army with their shells.
